Project Description

I began this project working on academic research focused on qualitative coding and thematic analysis of social media disinformation. Using Label Studio, I developed systematic methods to analyze over 500 visual media artifacts related to US/Mexico border narratives, creating a comprehensive codebook for categorizing misinformation and identifying narrative patterns. This foundational work allowed me to master structured annotation techniques and develop critical analytical skills for examining complex visual content across social platforms.

After nearly a year of this experience, I transitioned to a paid research position with the University of Washington's Center for Informed Public (CIP), where I focused on tracking election-related rumors during the 2024 election cycle. I used a Notion database to log, categorize, and track specific election rumors, which enabled efficient pattern recognition and cross-referencing of emerging narratives. Using Brandwatch alongside this custom system, I monitored platforms like X and TikTok, identified trending keywords, and provided contextual analysis of posts influencing public discourse. This research and cataloging helped facilitate blog posts made by the CIP for academic discourse, journalists and the public.
